CORTLAND, N.Y. (WHCU) – The Cortland Police Department has made an arrest in a Christmas Eve shooting investigation.

Authorities responded to shots fired on Church Street between Elm Street and Central Avenue around 11:43 p.m. on Sunday. An 18-year-old woman was shot while riding in a vehicle that was sitting in front of a residence. She was treated for non-life-threatening wounds at Upstate Medical Center and released.

On Wednesday, Cortland PD arrested Donald Sampson Jr. The 22-year-old Sampson is charged with felonies of assault, possession of a weapon, and criminal use of a firearm. He is additionally charged with misdemeanor reckless endangerment. Sampson is awaiting arraignment.
