CORTLAND, N.Y. (WHCU) — A hiring freeze is in effect in Cortland. 

Mayor Scott Steve says the freeze will remain in place into 2024. Steve presented his tentative budget earlier this week. It includes a tax rate increase of four percent and a budget gap of over three million dollars. The Common Council will vote on adopting the budget in December.
