CORTLAND, N.Y. (WHCU) – A Cortland man awaits his day in court.
Authorities were called to Elm Street on Thursday afternoon for a report that two people were being held against their will by Christopher Gillette. Cortland PD was able to get the people out safely, one of whom had an order of protection against Gillette. It led to a two-hour standoff with the 40-year-old, where he allegedly threatened to harm himself with a knife before being taken into custody without incident.
Gillette is charged with felonies of criminal contempt and aggravated family offense, and a misdemeanor for obstructing governmental administration. He’s being held without bail. Gillette is scheduled to appear in Cortland City Court on Tuesday.
