CORTLAND, N.Y. (WHCU) — A Cortland food shop is badly damaged after a blaze.

Crews responded to Garcia’s Mexican grocery store on Main Street around 6 PM on Monday night. Heavy smoke was seen by firefighters, who eventually were evacuated because the building’s structure was getting worse.

Chief Wayne Friedman tells WHCU he believes it was an accidental electrical fire, caused by a light.

Nobody was injured. Residents living in apartments above the store are temporarily displaced.
