Mitchell Padbury has been given 25 years to life for predatory sexual assault against a child, and seven years for sexual abuse, to be served concurrently. Padbury was convicted in March for crimes the Cortland County District Attorney’s Office says occurred over a 3-year period dating back to 2014.

Officials credited the victim and their family for coming forward and the Child Advocacy Center (CAC) for its support.

“The victim having the courage to come forward to share her heart-wrenching abuse and the support of Forensically Trained Interviewers was the key to this conviction,” said First Assistant District Attorney Jessica Weyant. “This conviction is the result of about five years of developed training of the Multi-Disciplinary Team, led by the CAC, of which the DA’s offices is a supporting agency. The victim, who spoke at sentencing, is no longer a victim of her perpetrator’s abuse.”

Padbury will also be subject to 20 years of supervision upon his release. The sentences are the maximum allowed by law.
