CORTLAND, N.Y. (WHCU) — One Cortland County official wants less state oversight on marijuana.

Legislative Chairman Kevin Fitch believes it should be the county’s right to set taxes.

“We feel that as a county, the state should not govern on what we tax,” Fitch said. “They’re the ones that legalized [marijuana]. They put it in with tobacco, it’s just like alcohol, all that. But they’re telling us that we can’t tax it.”

He plans to visit Albany later this month to talk with lawmakers.
