CORTLAND, N.Y. (WHCU) — The city of Cortland will be getting new firefighters.

On Tuesday, the Common Council voted in favor of allowing Fire Chief Wayne Friedman to hire replacements for two firefighters, who are retiring in January. Mayor Scott Steve tells WHCU it will allow the Cortland Fire Department to maintain staffing levels.

Two firefighters will be hired after they complete training.
