ITHACA, N.Y. (WHCU) – The Cornell University Police Department (CUPD) is investigating a swatting incident at a dormitory.
The Cornell University Public Safety Communications Center received a phone call at 2:32 a.m. Tuesday, April 4, 2023, from a male claiming he was armed in Jameson Hall and had an injured female with him.
CUPD immediately responded and searched the building and surrounding area but could not find any evidence of a shooter or an injured female. Most students are away from campus on spring break. Authorities determined residents remaining in the building were safe and the call was a hoax. Dozens of swatting hoaxes have been reported recently in high schools and universities across the country. The investigation is ongoing.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Cornell Police Department at (607)-255-1111 or submit a report through the Silent Witness Program.
