NEWFIELD, N.Y. (WHCU) – An attempt to locate a missing person turns up empty in Newfield.

The Ithaca Police Department, Tompkins County Sheriff’s Department, NYS Police, NYS Forest Rangers, and Civilian Search and Rescue spent much of Friday, June 2, 2023, following up on a tip that Thomas Rath may have been in the area of Benjamin Hill Road, but could not find him after an extensive search that included a helicopter and ATVs.

Police reported the 33-year-old man missing from the City of Ithaca earlier this week, calling his disappearance ‘suspicious in nature.’

They now believe he was last seen, or disappeared on May 19, 2023, wearing black jeans, a black hooded shirt, and carrying a blue bag. Rath is 6’00” and weighs approximately 145 pounds. He has numerous tattoos including a black and pink heart on his neck. The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact IPD.
