FREEVILLE, N.Y. (WHCU) – One person has died, and another is hospitalized after an early morning fire in Freeville.

The Freeville Fire Company responded to a reported fire with entrapment on Railroad Street just after 4:00 a.m. Friday. The building had heavy fire coming from the rear upstairs apartment.

Chief Michael Parker said an initial search was attempted by the first firefighters on scene but was unsuccessful due to extreme flames, smoke, and heat. All but one occupant made it out of the building. Another resident was transported to a hospital in Syracuse with non-life-threatening injuries.

The identity of the deceased has not been released. The fire is currently still under investigation.
