HOMER, N.Y. (WHCU) – An animal shelter in Cortland County will benefit from state funding.
Country Acres Animal Shelter in Homer is getting a grant of just under $290,000 to make improvements. The money will be used to update gates and dividing panels, create two new multi-use rooms, upgrade heating and electrical systems, and build roofing for outdoor spaces.
It’s part of $3.8 million heading to 10 shelters across New York in Round 6 of awards from the state’s Companion Animal Capital Fund. More than $33 million has been dedicated to the fund since it was launched in 2017, when New York became the first state in the country to fund capital projects for animal shelters.
