ITHACA, N.Y. (WHCU) – Air quality is trending downward in New York.
The Department of Environmental Conservation has extended their advisory to every region in New York, and pushed the advisory until 11:59 p.m. on Thursday, June 28, 2023. The advisory was originally supposed to end tonight at midnight.
Locally, the AQI (Air Quality Index) has surpassed 150 in Tompkins, Cortland, and Tioga Counties as of 4:00 p.m. This level on the AQI puts air in the ‘unhealthy’ range for all. Strenuous outdoor activity should be avoided. Quality mask-use is recommended. High-risk groups should avoid outdoor activity. Officials anticipate similar air quality tomorrow.
