ITHACA, N.Y. (WHCU) – Tompkins County Whole Health’s Environmental Health Division is looking for anyone who may have had contact with a beaver.
The animal that was reportedly acting aggressively at Six Mile Creek’s First Dam and Mulholland Wildflower Preserve on Giles Street has been confirmed to have rabies by the Wadsworth Laboratory. Anyone who may have had contact with, or whose pets may have had contact with, any beaver in that area within the last week should be evaluated for health risks. This includes those walking dogs in the area.
Anyone who may have had contact is urged to call Environmental Health at 607-274-6688 as soon as possible. The public is additionally advised to avoid the area while the NYS DEC searchers for other beavers with signs of illness.
