OWEGO, N.Y. (WHCU) – The 2024 budget proposal in Tioga County has passed.

Legislators approved the nearly $103 million spending plan on Tuesday, an increase of over $3 million from 2023. Officials say 98% of the county’s proposed tax levy is made up of state-mandated services, including residential community college chargebacks, which are anticipated to grow to nearly $3 million next year. Other services included in the tax levy expenditure include Medicaid Management Information Systems (MMIS), jail facilities, and child welfare services.

Officials say the largest funding streams in the county are real property taxes, sales tax, and state aid.
