ITHACA, N.Y. (WHCU) — Over 200 Cornell faculty members have signed an open letter to the university on the MOU with Ithaca.
The letter notes Cornell’s tax-exempt status increases their “moral obligation and social duty to act as a responsible member” of the community. It also says Cornell’s agreement to a four-million-dollar, 21-year voluntary contribution to the city is not enough, adding that university officials should continue their discussions with Ithaca city officials.
The Ithaca Common Council will vote on accepting the MOU on Wednesday.
