Common Council votes 10-1 to override tax cap

ITHACA, NY (CortacaToday) — The Ithaca Common Council has voted to override the state’s two percent tax cap. 

Alderperson Margaret Fabrizio was the lone dissenter. 

By overriding the state’s tax cap, the Common Council has a ‘safety net’ in case the 2025 spending plan exceeds the state tax levy limit. Ithaca’s fiscal year begins January 1.
