OWEGO, NY (CortacaToday) – A man wanted by Owego Police for more than a week is in custody.

On the morning of August 19, 2024, Owego Police were called to an industrial property on West Avenue in the village for a reported burglary. The suspect, identified as Nicholas Cron, of Athens Pennsylvania, allegedly brandished a firearm when confronted by a civilian and fled on foot before authorities arrived.

About an hour later, the 30-year-old Cron was located near the intersection of Fox and McMaster Streets. Waverly PD says they witnessed Cron walk into traffic and steal a car at gunpoint, setting off a long pursuit with multiple agencies, drones, and K-9 Units. The search spanned Owego, Nichols, Waverly, and Pennsylvania. Cron allegedly stole numerous vehicles and property from other victims during this time.

The New York State Police Violent Felony Warrant Squad caught up with Cron around 6 p.m. Wednesday in the Town of Owego. When confronted by law enforcement, Cron allegedly attempted to flee the scene in a stolen UTV before crashing. Nobody was hurt.

Cron is charged with four felonies, including robbery, burglary, criminal use of a firearm, and criminal possession of a weapon. He was remanded to Tioga County Jail on $100,000 cash bail. Owego Police say additional charges are pending from participating agencies, which includes the NYSP, the Tioga County Sheriff’s Department, Waverly Police, and Sayre Police.
