ITHACA, NY (CortacaToday) — There is a strike underway at Cornell.

According to the Ithaca Voice, night shift workers started striking last night. Since April, the United Auto Workers and Cornell have been negotiating a new contract.

Christine Lovely, Cornell’s chief human resources officer, says the university has backup plans to maintain essential services. The strike coincides with the start of student move-in week, and workers will be picketing today on campus.

UAW Local 2300 represents around 1,200 employees at Cornell.
