ITHACA, N.Y. (WHCU) — Governor Kathy Hochul has proposed shifting Medicaid funding in the new state budget. $625 million normally split among counties would instead be redirected, meaning every county across New York will need to cover the gap themselves. 

Tompkins County Administrator Lisa Holmes tells us it’s a big cost. 

If unchanged in Albany, the financial crunch may be felt sooner. 

Democratic and Republican lawmakers are both opposed to Hochul’s proposal.
