ITHACA, N.Y. (WHCU) – The surviving members of the Grateful Dead are coming back to Cornell University on their farewell tour.

Forty-six years to the day of the legendary concert, Dead & Co. will return for a benefit show at Barton Hall. Proceeds from the performance will go to Cornell’s 2030 project to fight climate change and a non-profit that supports the health of music industry professionals.

“Cornell 1977 holds a special place in Grateful Dead lore,” said drummer Mickey Hart. “That magical night lives forever and will always link Cornell and the Grateful Dead. On that fateful night in 1977, my wife Caryl was a student at Cornell but missed that performance. Many twists and turns later, we wind up once again at Cornell to celebrate that 1977 performance with a benefit concert at Barton Hall. If anyone finds some of my old brain cells that I lost back in ’77 in Barton Hall, please advise.”

Tickets are limited for the concert at Barton Hall, which seats less than 5,000 people. Tickets for students, alumni, and staff will be released via lottery. The general public can find tickets and more information here. The concert happens Monday, May 8, 2023.
