NEWFIELD, NY (CortacaToday) — On July 26th and 27th, the Newfield Old Home Days will be taking place on the Newfield Central School grounds to continue the tradition of low cost, high quality community fun.

Believed to be started as a church picnic in the late 1800s, the Newfield Old Home Days has been a staple of the community in Newfield since its inception. The committee that works to organize the event is small according to Vicki Cody, chairperson of the Newfield Old Home Days committee.

“It’s a core group that works tirelessly to organize the event. The biggest fundraiser we have is the advertising booklet that solicits all of the local businesses in Newfield, as well as some from Ithaca,” says Cody in regard to community partnerships for the festival.

A big raffle basket tent, cake wheel, parade, flyover ping pong ball drop, and fireworks show are all to be expected from the festival. “This year, the fireworks show will be better than ever as we got some generous cash donations, so it will definitely be bigger than last year,” Cody remarks. There is no admission fee, and any games or activities are free of charge. Additionally, there is free parking in the Newfield Junior and Senior High School parking lot, as well as parking up and down Main Street.

“If you have a family, you can do a lot at the festival without having to spend much money,” Cody states.

Taking place on Friday 7/26 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Saturday 7/27 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., check out the Newfield Old Home Days Facebook page for more information.
