CORTLAND, N.Y. (WHCU) – A Cortland man is charged in a fatal motor vehicle accident.

Cortland Police responded to the crash on Homer Avenue around 7:15 a.m. on Saturday, February 25th, 2023. A vehicle with four adults went off the roadway and hit a utility pole. A 50-year-old woman died in the crash, and two others were taken to Upstate Medical University Hospital with serious injuries. The driver, 49-year-old Ergardo Rosario, was treated for chest pain at a local medical facility.

Authorities believe through investigation, including evaluation by a drug recognition expert, that Rosario was under the influence of drugs at the time of the crash. He was arrested and charged with felonies of aggravated vehicular homicide and vehicular manslaughter. He’s additionally charged with 3 misdemeanors. He’s currently being held at Cortland County Jail and will appear in Cortland City Court on March 15th, 2023. The investigation is ongoing.
