ITHACA, N.Y. (WHCU) – Law enforcement agencies in Cortland County will see upgrades.

The Village of Homer Police Department, the City of Cortland Police Department, and the Cortland County Sheriff’s Office are getting a boost in state funding to integrate new technology and equipment. It’s part of $127 million in grant awards for police departments and sheriff’s offices outside New York City for the fiscal year 2025.

State officials say the money will go toward license plate readers, mobile and fixed camera systems, computer-aided dispatch systems, software, unmanned aerial vehicles, gunshot detection devices, and smart equipment for patrol vehicles and officers.

  • Cortland County Sheriff’s Office – $84,375
  • City of Cortland Police Department – $576,099
  • Village of Homer Police Department – $281,500

Five agencies in Tompkins County will also receive funding.
