ITHACA, N.Y. (WHCU) – Cornell University is pausing further disciplinary actions against protestors.

President Martha Pollack addressed the Big Red community today, saying the voluntary nature of the Coalition for Mutual Liberation’s (CML) closure of the arts quad encampment earlier this week led to the decision.

Pollack said the school will “promptly and carefully” review all existing suspension cases but added if new or repeat violations occur “additional sanctions will be issued.” CML previously asked for amnesty for everyone involved in “the liberated zone.”

Pollack doubled down on Cornell’s commitment to free speech but added that Cornellians must address how they communicate with each other on campus, noting multiple instances of antisemitism and Islamophobia over the last seven months.
