DRYDEN, NY (607NewsNow) – New York’s higher education system is supporting increased access to outdoor spaces at state colleges.
On Oct. 21, Tompkins Cortland Community College (TC3) received $8,000 through SUNY’s Outdoors for All grant program.
The two-year school in Dryden will use the money to transform a furnished structure into an outdoor classroom, which is expected to be completed this spring.
“Tompkins Cortland Community College’s campus is located in one of the most beautiful areas of the state, and this grant will give our students and community members another way to enjoy that beauty through the creation of a new outdoor learning space,” said TC3 President Amy Krememenk.
TC3 was among 14 awardees announced by SUNY Chancellor John King Jr.
“There is a place at SUNY for every New Yorker, and we are proud of our work to ensure our students have access to engaging, hands-on learning experiences in the outdoors that bring students together and build community,” said King. “SUNY’s Outdoors for All grant program demonstrates how our campuses are leading the way in enhancing outdoor learning opportunities for our students and increasing access to outdoor spaces.”
The new space will be located outside TC3’s athletics facility near the tennis courts. Work is already underway.
