ITHACA, NY (607NewsNow) — Pay raises are possible for the Ithaca Common Council.

Alderperson Robin Trumble introduced the legislation on Wednesday. He tells 607 News Now the resolution is based on discussions he watched before becoming a council member.

After some debate, the council agreed on raising the mayor’s pay to over $52,000 a year and alderpersons to $19,600. According to the resolution, “Effective January 1, 2024, the annual salary of the Mayor was lowered from $61,489 to $30,000. Concurrently, the annual salary for each Member of the Common Council was raised from $13,141 to $17,091.”

Despite a multi-million-dollar deficit the city is facing in 2027, Trumble believes the time is right.

Ithaca’s Common Council will hold a vote on raising their pay on Oct. 7.
