DANBY, NY (607NewsNow) – A hiker is OK thanks to firefighters in Danby.

On September 18, members of the Danby Volunteer Fire Company were called to Michigan Hollow Road around 3:45 p.m. for a man stuck in a tree.

When crews arrived, they found an SUV parked along the roadway, and established verbal contact with the victim, who was in a tree about 500 feet off the roadway.

Authorities say the hiker had climbed the tree to take a picture when he slipped and his knee became stuck. The man was able to hold onto his phone and call for help.

First responders at the scene manually relieved pressure and restored circulation to the man’s leg, and the Ithaca Fire Department’s rope rescue team was called in.

After he was safely rescued, he was found to be uninjured.
