ENFIELD, NY (607NewsNow) — Two people have died in a Tompkins County plane crash.

Sheriff Derek Osborne says a small Cessna-style plane went down around 12:30 p.m. Sunday in the 100 block of N. Applegate Rd. in Enfield. 52-year-old David Kornreich, who owned the plane, was pronounced dead on the scene. His passenger, 31-year-old Andrew Harrell, died from his injuries at Cayuga Medical Center.

Osborne says the plane, identified as a 1977 Lake LA-4-200, was cleared for liftoff from the Ithaca Tompkins International Airport at 11:24 a.m. and last made contact with the tower at 12:02 p.m. According to an eyewitness, the aircraft appeared to suffer a mechanical issue.

The FAA and NTSB are leading the investigation into the crash, Osborne said.
