ITHACA, N.Y. (WHCU) – Amid calls for more public safety transparency in Tompkins County, the Community Justice Center (CJC) has published a data dashboard.
The CJC’s dashboard has 30 different visualizations of several datasets, including comprehensive data on dispatched calls, arrests, and criminal case outcomes. It’s part of the goals laid out by Tompkins County and Ithaca during Reimagining Public Safety plans in 2021. It follows the Tompkins County Sheriff’s and District Attorney’s Office, which have both launched transparency hubs over the last six months.
“One of the key points of Reimagining Public Safety is to examine disproportionate outcomes for people of color in policing and the criminal justice system,” said CJC Project Director Monalita Smiley. “So, I’m glad to report that several of the datasets in this dashboard can be broken down by demographics, including race. I invite the community to use this dashboard to explore outcomes and disparities, as well as to better understand 911 calls for service, policing, and case outcomes for individuals in our community.”
