OVID, NY (607NewsNow) – The victim’s family is raising money to solve a decades-old murder in Seneca County.
On August 14, 1985, 20-year-old Kristin O’Connell, of Burnsville, Minnesota, was visiting a friend in Ovid when she disappeared after taking a walk.
She was last seen walking along County Road 139 around 11 p.m. According to State Police, O’Connell’s body was found in a nearby cornfield by a search party on August 16 with significant stab wounds and slashing of the throat.
O’Connell’s mother has started a GoFundMe to pay for modern forensic testing of preserved physical evidence that investigators say could lead to a break in the 41-year-old cold case. At the time of publication, the O’Connells were less than $2,000 shy of their $10,000 fundraising goal. Click here to donate.
According to WENY-TV, a memorial walk retracing O’Connell’s last known steps was held on Sunday in Ovid for the second straight year.
