CORTLAND, NY (607NewsNow) — On Sunday, July 19th, Dio Day returns to Cortland for another year, honoring the legacy of rock music legend and Cortland native Ronnie James Dio.

Having graduated from Cortland High School (CHS), the Dio Day Committee honors Dio by raising funds to be able to award a CHS student with the Dio Day Music Scholarship every year. I-100 Iconic Rock is proud to be media sponsor of the event, taking the opportunity to connect local classic rock fans with a music legend.

Holy Mother, an American heavy metal band led by powerhouse vocalist Mike Tirelli, will headline the event. The band lineup (in order of appearance) is as follows:

  • Jim Van Duesen
  • Crimson Underground
  • Elderly Bros
  • Billy Golicki (Billy and the Therapists)
  • The High Road (Kat Walter’s band)
  • Yayle Hues
  • Holy Mother (Headliner)
  • Throw Down Cold
  • Defining 13
  • Catalyst

The Ride for Dio motorcycle run, a short motorcycle run, returns this year and is expected to depart from the park prior to the event. Participation in the ride will be included with the price of admission. The Homeville Museum at the CNY Living History Center will be doing a display at the event, led by Jamie Dangler. The display will feature a variety of pieces along with information from Ronnie’s early years and throughout his career.
