ITHACA, NY (607NewsNow) – Check your dog food.
According to the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Pedigree is recalling two lots of canned High Protein Chicken & Duck Flavor Chopped Ground Dinner wet food because they could contain sharp metal or plastic pieces.
Officials say the product was sent to a third party for destruction, but it was instead “fraudulently diverted and sold into the marketplace in the United States.” There have been no reports of illnesses to date, but ingestion could lead to serious health problems, including choking, lacerations, or blockages in the gastrointestinal tract.
Anyone who may have fed the food to their dog and is concerned should contact their veterinarian immediately.
Pedigree’s parent company, Mars, is working with authorities to determine how the products were distributed in the United States. Consumers are encouraged to contact Pedigree Consumer Care to initiate a replacement.
