ITHACA, N.Y. (WHCU) – Meteorologists say flooding is possible on Wednesday and Thursday.

The National Weather Service has issued a flood watch in much of the region, including Tompkins, Cortland, Tioga, Broome, Chemung, Schuyler, and Steuben Counties.

Excessive rain up to three inches is possible, which will runoff into watersheds that could cause rivers, creeks, and streams to rise significantly. The flooding could potentially begin late Wednesday night into early Thursday morning. Officials say to monitor later forecasts and keep an eye out if the flood watch turns to a flood warning.

The flood watch is currently in effect until Thursday night.
