CORTLAND, N.Y. (WHCU) – A Cortland man is facing charges in relation to a theft investigation.

Cortland Police Officers arrested 38-year-old Nicholas Stone Monday for his role in a theft complaint that occurred on January 7th, 2023. A utility trailer was stolen from a job site in River Side Plaza located at 156 Clinton Avenue. The trailer was later located by a hiker on a snowmobile trail south of Pipeline Road in Cortland County.

There was over $50,000 worth of stolen property in the trailer, including numerous construction tools and equipment. Stone was charged with felonies of grand larceny, tampering with evidence, conspiracy, and possession of stolen property. Authorities say the investigation is ongoing, and more arrests are likely.

Stone was also arrested Monday for violating a court order. Officials say Stone failed to surrender firearms he was no longer permitted to carry. He was charged with 3 misdemeanor counts of criminal possession of a weapon and a misdemeanor count of criminal contempt.
