CORTLANDVILLE, N.Y. (WHCU) – Local firefighters are maintaining their skill levels.
More than 50 members of volunteer fire departments attended a fire refresher course given by the DEC and weather officials last Thursday in Cortlandville. Forest Rangers gave a presentation on last year’s activities and case studies.

Representatives from the National Weather Service discussed the upcoming wildfire season and its challenges. The training session ended with the deployment of fire shelters and a “pack test,” which is a physical fitness assessment involving a distance run while carrying a backpack filled with gear.
