ITHACA, NY (607NewsNow) — Lawmakers in Tompkins County will celebrate different cultures this evening.
The Tompkins County Legislature will proclaim May as Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander American Heritage Month.
According to the proclamation, Asians, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders make up about 11 percent of residents in the county. The groups contribute to the “intellectual, academic, literary, cultural and economic” vibrancy of the community, the proclamation states.
The legislature meets at 5:30 p.m. at the Daniel D. Tompkins Building in Ithaca.
