AURORA, N.Y. (WHCU) – A poaching investigation has ended in Cayuga County.

A witness in the Town of Junius reported seeing two men shoot a group of snow geese from a truck on February 29. One man jumped out and grabbed a goose, leaving the other three to die in the field. DEC Police tracked that vehicle down to a home in Aurora, where the occupant admitted to the killings.

The pair were issued ten violations each, including wanton waste, shooting a gun across a public highway, possessing a loaded gun in a motor vehicle, discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a dwelling, failure to carry a migratory bird stamp, prohibited used of a semi-automatic shotgun holding more than six rounds, and illegally taking wildlife from a motor vehicle.
