ASHLAND, N.Y. (WHCU) – The DEC says a wildfire in Chemung County was started by a resident.

Forest Rangers responded to the Town of Ashland last week and to assist the Wellsburg Fire Department with an investigation. The ranger walked the perimeter and determined the blaze was 12.5 acres. The person responsible was ticketed for setting a fire without clearing three feet of inflammable materials near the source and endangering another’s property.
