ALBANY, N.Y. (WHCU) — State Senator Tom O’Mara is proposing a bill that would raise the speed limit on some New York highways.

The current statewide speed limit is 55 miles an hour and 65 miles an hour on interstates. O’Mara suggests raising the speed limit to 70 miles an hour where the limit is currently posted as 65.

O’Mara says he wants New York roads to match other states with a speed limit of 70. O’Mara’s bill, if passed, would take effect immediately.
