LANSING, N.Y. (WHCU) — Lansing leaders are thinking of honoring a former slave.

The bridge over Salmon Creek doesn’t currently have a name. Officials are considering naming the structure after Peter Wheeler, who escaped slavery in the area around 1800.

There’s also a plaque honoring Wheeler at Ludlowville Park.

Lansing’s Town Board meets Wednesday at 6:30 PM to discuss.
