ITHACA, N.Y. (WHCU) – Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and Senator Kirsten Gillibrand deliver more than $8.5 million for Southern Tier Infrastructure.
$1.3 million is heading to the City of Ithaca to design and construct flood mitigation measures, including barriers and storm water improvements. Officials say this project will increase the City of Ithaca’s resilience and improve its ability to weather the effects of climate change.
“We’re grateful for the leadership of Senator Schumer and Senator Gillibrand in delivering this funding which will allow the city to start an extensive design process for this important flood mitigation project,” said Ithaca Mayor Laura Lewis. “The funds will be used in conjunction with FEMA grant funding, if awarded, to construct improvements that will reduce or eliminate flood risk in many parts of the city.”
