ITHACA, N.Y. (WHCU) — Tompkins County lawmakers have mixed opinions on the conflict in the Middle East.

Legislator Mike Sigler says he “struggles” to support a resolution for a cease-fire.

“There was already a temporary cease-fire called and Hamas repeatedly broke it,” he says. “It also continued to fire rockets into Israel at that point.”

But Legislator Travis Brooks says a formal collective opinion is necessary – even without total consensus.

“We don’t need everybody to agree on every piece of what’s written in that resolution,” he says. “There are some things that just seem to be what people want, and that’s a cease-fire.”

Several lawmakers plan to meet with the county’s Human Rights Commission to draft a resolution for the next meeting.
