Max served with the community policing unit as a victim comfort and support K-9. He passed away on Wednesday from cancer. Max was a rescue dog from Texas and was adopted at a shelter in Pennsylvania. He was the first dog to be certified as a Critical Incident Therapy Dog by the Eastern Police K-9 Association.

Owego PD says Max and his handler Sonya Bement were vital additions to the department, assisting with all the events in the village and were available for crisis interventions with both adults and children.
