UPDATE: According to the Tompkins County Sheriff’s Office, three people died in the fire.
They are identified as 31-year-old Katherine Gray, 30-year-old Christy Oralls, and 3-year-old Paisley Wood. David Welch, 54, was transported to Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse and is in stable condition.
Welch rents the property with his wife, who was not home at the time of the fire. Oralls and her daughter, Paisley, were staying with them. Gray, another niece, was visiting from Whitney Point.
It’s also suspected that four dogs died in the fire, but only one has been located as of 5 p.m. on April 1.
DRYDEN, NY (607NewsNow) – A fire in Tompkins County is under investigation.
On April 1, multiple agencies, including the Tompkins County Sheriff’s Office, were called to 321 Cortland Road in the Town of Dryden for a structure fire.
According to Sheriff Derek Osborne, the home was completely engulfed when first responders arrived shortly after 10 a.m. Osborne adds it’s believed that some people were unable to exit the building and likely died as a result.
As of 2 p.m., crews are still working on the fire. Once the property can be safely entered, further investigation will continue.
