ITHACA, NY (607NewsNow) — Tompkins County is concerned about the Vecino Group.

The property managers of Asteri Ithaca have been under fire since the discovery of numerous fire and building code violations. Tompkins County Administrator Korsah Akumfi tells 607 News Now he wants Vecino to provide more security in the building on E. Green St.

“One of the things we’ve been calling on as a county for over a year is the presence of security in the building,” Akumfi said. “And the presence of adequate cleaning and management staff.”

Akumfi also has clear expectations of Vecino moving forward.

“We expect to have security on site. We expect to have property management on site 24/7. We expect to have cleaning on site during the day,” Akumfi stated.

Asteri residents are back home after the city’s order to vacate was lifted on Friday, March 20.
