SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WHCU) – The Cornell student charged with making violent threats to Jewish students on campus will remain in custody until his trial.

Patrick Dai was denied bail at his detention hearing in federal court today. The Daily Sun reports Dai’s legal team argued he’s not a risk to the community and has an undiagnosed developmental disability. The prosecution argued Dai is a flight risk because his father lives in China. The judge ultimately ordered Dai to remain in Broome County Jail until his trial, saying his erratic behavior and online threats were consistent with other mass shooters in recent US history.

Dai has been charged with posting threats to kill or injure another using interstate communications. If convicted, Dai could face five years in prison, a $250,000 fine, and three years of post-release supervision. Dai’s trial date has not yet been scheduled.
