CORTLAND, NY (607NewsNow) – A Cortland County official is receiving state recognition.

On January 30, Chief Assistant District Attorney Jessica Weyant was honored as a recipient of the Robert M. Morgenthau Award by the District Attorneys Association of the State of New York (DAASNY).

The award is given annually in each Appellate Division to a prosecutor who exemplifies honesty, integrity, and commitment to justice. Morgenthau was a longtime DA of Manhattan known for his unparalleled commitment to the highest of ethical standards, who frequently said a prosecutor’s job is to protect the public, not obtain convictions like notches on a gun.

Weyant, who grew up in Groton, has handled some of the most challenging cases for the Cortland County DA’s Office over the last five years, often coordinating with multiple agencies.

“I am truly honored to have been nominated for this prestigious award, let alone be its recipient,” stated Weyant. “I am thankful for the work I am able to do with the wonderful men, women, and children I am able to serve. Being a Special Victims Prosecutor is not only my purpose, but it’s my passion, and it’s an honor to be recognized for the work I am able to do for the people of Cortland County in that role.”

Weyant was made Chief Special Victims Prosecutor in 2020 and was named Chief Assistant District Attorney in 2023.
