ITHACA, N.Y. (WHCU) – It’s tax season and a group is offering free tax prep in Tompkins County.
Lifelong and the Tompkins County Office for the Aging are administering the IRS funded Tax Counseling for the Elderly program. Seniors 60 and up, all individuals with disabilities, and families with income below $60,000 are eligible. Some complex tax returns may not qualify. All returns are prepared by IRS trained and certified volunteers.
Appointments are available February 4th through April 14th by calling (607)-216-7862. Taxpayers 60 and up whose returns were completed by the program last year receive priority. They may call Monday through Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. to schedule their appointment. Other taxpayers may call for an appointment beginning March 1st. The free federal and state return tax prep is happening at the Ulysses Philomathic Library in Trumansburg, the Southworth Library in Dryden, and Lifelong in Ithaca, located at 119 West Court Street.
