ITHACA, NY (607NewsNow) – Tompkins County is getting state support to help local farms.

The Tompkins County Soil and Water Conservation District has received nearly $2.5 million in funding to help two farms in the Owasco Lake Watershed update operations.

The funds will be used for new equipment and infrastructure that will help reduce nutrient-rich runoff and collect and reuse silage leachate for irrigation. Projects include the construction of a manure collection channel with a pumping station and transfer line to a farm’s new manure storage facility.

It’s part of $25 million announced last week to support similar projects across the state, including Cortland County.
