ERWIN, N.Y. (WHCU) – Authorities in Steuben County are investigating a fatal motorcycle crash involving a Tompkins County man.

State Police at Painted Post say, Joseph Hollander, of Newfield, was traveling west on State Route 417 in the Town of Erwin around 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday when he swerved to avoid colliding with a group of deer in the roadway. Investigators say he was unable to avoid striking an animal and was ejected from his motorcycle. Hollander was airlifted to Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre and later succumbed to his injuries.
